Introduced by Tinker Hatfield, an aspiring architect and footwear designer, the Nike Air Max was first launched in 1987. Inspired by the Georges Pompidou Center, the designer aimed to replicate the bubble air architecture on his new model. Thus, the Air Max 1 became the first shoe to reveal the "Air" technology, featuring the iconic air bubble on the midsole from its very first model, the Air Max 1 OG Red. Moreover, the "Air" technology is incorporated in various designs, including the Air Jordan collection. This innovative approach revitalized the Nike brand, on the verge of bankruptcy, and allowed the company to enter a new era by completely standing out from the formerly understated designs we had seen until then.

Becoming a true icon in sneaker culture, the Air Max 1 has secured its place. Since 2014, every March 26, Nike celebrates Air Max Day. This day commemorates the creation of the Air Max One and presents special editions each year on this occasion. This year, we have the Nike Air Max 1 Premium Wabi-Sabi straight from Air Max Day 2022. This pair features a white canvas upper complemented by overlays in light pink and ochre leather. The mudguard and heel of the AM1 Wabi-Sabi also feature brown suede and khaki green accents, giving it a mismatched effect. The silhouette is adorned with white stitching. Additionally, the Wabi-Sabi Air Max offers interchangeable labels on the top of the tongue, laces, and smiley faces reminiscent of the "Have a Nike Day" collection. One can spot red embroideries representing the number "XXXV" as a nod to the 35th anniversary of the Nike Air Max 1 collection. Finally, the sole has a distressed look with crackled patterns on the gum outsole. Drawing inspiration from Japanese philosophy, the Nike AM One Wabi-Sabi, available for men and women, is brimming with details, just like the two models that accompany it. The Nike Air Max 1 La Ville Lumière and the Nike Air Max 1 Blue Print are also part of the pack released for Air Max Day.
