The Jordan Brand is a subsidiary of Nike that was created in collaboration with Michael Jordan. It currently holds over half of the sneaker market share in the United States. The story of this brand began in the 1980s when Michael Jordan needed an equipment supplier for his entry into the NBA. This was during the early days of athlete sponsorship. Despite many top brands vying for MJ to wear their sneakers for his games, the young rookie chose Nike. The Swoosh brand offered him an attractive salary, commissions on each shoe sold, and a clothing line in his name. After signing the contract, Jordan was granted a signature shoe. This pair, named Air Jordan, marked the start of a long line of sneakers and the history of the Jordan Brand.
